My glossary is themed in the Prehospital Urgency care. I want to be a paramedic.
- Antiseptic
- noun
- Something that discourages the growth of microorganisms. By contrast, aseptic refers to the absence of microorganisms.
- Example: Used to treat infectious wounds or of use as an ANTISEPTIC.

- Aorta
- noun
- The great arterial trunk that carries blood from the heart to be distributed by branch arteries through the microorganisms.
- Example: Aortic valve allows regurgitation of blood from the AORTA to the left ventricle during diastole.

- Bandage
- noun
- A long piece of cloth which is wrapped around an injured body part.
- Example: These findings were supported by another study in which patients were treated with an elastic BANDAGE and immediate weight bearing.

- Blood clot
- noun
- A semisolid gelatinous mass of coagulated blood that consists of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets entrapped in a fibrin network.
- Example: This obstruction is probably due to a BLOOD CLOT which has travelled down.

- Cardiac arrest
- noun
- A temporary or permanent cessation of the heartbeat.
- Example: Mrs was in a similar position and at risk of a CARDIAC ARREST.

- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- noun
- Emergency medical procedures for restoring normal heartbeat and breathing to victims of heart failure, drowning, etc.
- Example: They had to do a CPR on the patient.

- noun
- A thin tube that can be inserted in the body to treat diseases or perform a surgical procedure.
- Example: The surgical drain and the CATHETER were removed and passed urine normally.

- Cerebrovascular accident (stroke)
- noun
- A sudden interruption of the blood supply to the brain caused by rupture of an artery in the brain (cerebral haemorrhage) or the blocking of a blood vessel, as by a clot of blood.
- Example: He had a stroke.

- Cervical collar
- Noun
- A neck brace used to support a patient's neck and head.
- Example: Her most recent bout involved her c-spine where she described pain, morning stiffness, and fatigue, loss of flexion extension lateral movements and weakness that required a CERVICAL COLLAR for support.

- A serious, unexpected, and often dangerous situation requiring immediate action.
- Example: A paramedic requires a quick response in an emergency situation.

- To fall into a usually brief state of unconsciousness.
- Example: I fainted on my way home.

- noun
- A covering for the hand worn for protection against cold or dirt and typically having separate parts for each finger and the thumb.
- Example: They would therefore expect to see some blood on the GLOVE.

- Noun
- A wheeled stretcher used for transporting patients.
- Example: They put the man on a gurney before getting in the ambulance.

- noun
- The flow of blood to the heart muscle.
- Example: He performed a myocardial perfusion.

- Pulse
- noun
- To take the pulse of the heart of someone, at his wrist.
- Example: He had a good pulse.

- Sedative
- noun
- A drug taken for its calming or sleep-inducing effect.
- Example: Greg is taking Clozaril which can have SEDATIVE effects and increase lethargy.

- Sterile field
- noun
- A specified area, such as within a tray or on a sterile towel, that is considered free of microorganisms.
- Example: Can you take the knife on the sterile field?

- Noun
- A tool which is used for listening to someone’s breathing or heart.
- Example: I'm going to go take the stethoscope.

- Syringe
- Noun
- A tool which is used to inject fluid into the body or withdraw fluid from it.
- Example: It is better to use a larger SYRINGE to give a smaller injection.

- Vein
- A blood vessel that carries blood toward the heart.
- Example: Needles can become dislodged and damage the VEIN.
